1 h50th Street

Service Description

The Mini Masters Art Membership is a weekly art history and studio class for ages 7–11 where students explore a new master artist each month and learn how their work has shaped the world of art. Each month, students study an influential artist’s life, signature techniques, and artistic impact, then bring that learning into the studio through guided, hands-on projects. Artists may include Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Matisse, Yayoi Kusama, Wassily Kandinsky, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci. Students will experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking-style work, and mixed media. The focus is not only on creating finished artwork, but also on understanding how and why each artist created the way they did—building both technical skills and art appreciation over time. Each month follows a simple learning rhythm: Week 1: Introduction to the artist (life, style, and famous works) Week 2: Technique study inspired by the artist’s methods Week 3: Guided studio project in the artist’s style Week 4: Final “masterpiece” project and reflection/gallery sharing For example, during a Van Gogh month, students may explore expressive brushwork, create sunflower studies, experiment with swirling night sky paintings, and complete a final expressive landscape inspired by Starry Night. Families may choose one weekly session that best fits their schedule: Tuesdays 4:00–5:00 PM Thursdays 4:00–5:00 PM Both sessions follow the exact same curriculum, so students may attend either day consistently.
